FIGURE DRAWING & ANATOMY WORKSHOP, 18TH - 20TH NOVEMBER, FLORENCE.

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be holding a 3 day workshop @thesign_comics_arts_academy in Florence from the 18th-20th November. For more information or to reserve a spot please email vanessa@thesign.academy.

Over the three days we'll look at the different stages for developing a solid drawing process through a variety of techniques, lectures and demos. We will look at and develop our sense for Gesture, Design Language, Lighting, Foreshortening and Composition as well as looking how understanding some anatomy can help us understand the relationships between the parts to form a whole. 

 This will include drawing time with a model as we explore these ideas.

THE STRUCTURE FOR THE THREE DAYS IS AS FOLLOWS:

Day 1, Morning;  Intro to the principle concepts and looking at the 4 stages of drawing development. Short poses working with the model. Afternoon; The principles of  Anatomy & Lighting  Short & long poses working with the model. 

 Day 2, Morning; Design language lecture , Short poses working with the model.  Afternoon; Anatomy demo, Lighting 2.  Short & long poses working with the model. 

 Day 3, Morning; Transitional forms & foreshortening lecture, Short & long poses working with the model.  Afternoon; Outdoor lecture and sketching at Loggia dei Lanzi. (weather permitting)

Richard Smitheman, Instructor; Richard has worked in the Animation Industry for over twenty five years specializing in Feature and Television production. During this time Richard has worked at some of the most prominent studios in the industry including Dreamworks, Disney, Warner Bros and the Jim Henson Company. Most recently Richard worked as Character Cleanup Supervisor on Netflix’s first Animated feature ‘KLAUS’ at Sergio Pablos Animation in Madrid.
